RULES AND REGULATIONS –Mini Truck/Van Rules- 2017

NO changes or alterations of rules may be made except by IMPACT motorsports


IMPORTANT:  Each driver and mechanic must sign in at registration desk the day of show and have their cars inspected solely to determine compliance with those rules and not for purpose of determining safety of car or participant NO REFUNDS!


I have read the rules and acknowledge to have received a copy of same and agree that the decision of the Judges is final.  I agree to participate at my own risk absolutely.  It is a condition of my participation in the contest that I sign a further release of liability in the form to be supplied by Impact Motorsports and I agree to sign such a release.

SPECIAL NOTICE: No alcohol or drugs allowed in any restricted (PIT, HOLDING OR PERFORMING) AREA.

Any violations will result in disqualification of CAR, DRIVER AND CREW.  NO REFUNDS!!!

The IMPACT Motorsports Demolition Derby is promoted as an unusual spectator attraction.

DRIVERS and MECHANICS are subject to and must obey the following rules and regulations which are set up by the promoter and the track where this event is being held:

  1. Each driver must be a minimum age of 16. All 16 & 17 year olds must have a parent or guardians sign an insurance waiver. Guardian must provide photo ID.
  2. The original registered driver must drive that vehicle for the entire event. No substituting drivers.
  3. Impact Motorsports or promoter reserves the right to approve or reject any and all entries, drivers or pit persons.
  4. Only drivers and mechanics who sign the release sheet will be permitted in the pit area or on the track. Driver and one (1) pit person receive free pit passes upon registration of car on day of show. All drivers and pit person must wear supplied pit passes.
  5. IMPACT Motorsports, the promoter, track owner or fair association will not be held responsible for any cars, parts or personal property before, during and after the show.
  6. Each competitor to carry their liability insurance. Impact Motorsports policy does not cover participants.
  7. Drivers and mechanics should report to the Impact Motorsports sign in area minimum of an hour before the scheduled start time.
  8. NO pit person under the age of 16. IMPACT MOTORSPORTS reserves the right to ask all pit persons for photo ID. All drivers and mechanics are in the pit area at their own risk.

Type of Truck/Van

  1. Open to mini truck/van, extended cabs and 4 door truck are acceptable. Example –,S-10, Mazda, Ranger, Caravan, Venture. ETC. Stock engines. NO ENGINE CHANGES. – Max 6 cylinder engines. If you have a type of truck/van you want to run but unsure if it will pass please contact our office. Dodge Dakota does not run in this class. It’s a full size truck. No Astro vans. Open to front wheel drive vans only.
  2. NO 4 X 4/AWD  No removing drive shafts and transfer cases in 4×4 trucks to pass rules and tech.
  3. NO jeeps, hearses, limousines.
  4. Trucks previously run in demos may be considered too battered and unsafe, resulting in disqualification.



Risk: Demolition derbies are hazardous and high-risk sports; therefore, anyone with a health condition, i.e., concussion, heart problems etc. or who is pregnant should not compete.

Protect yourself. Work Boots, sport equipment – e.g. neck brace, knee pads, shoulder pads, hip pads etc. are recommended.

No bare exposed skin.  All drivers MUST wear long pants/coveralls or long sleeved shirts. No exceptions.

Working seat belt and racing helmet are mandatory.  Helmets MUST have chin straps. Goggles or face shields are recommended.

BRAKES – Vehicles must have dependable brakes and must be working properly before entering TRACK at all times.  All boundaries must be observed.

NO DRINKING OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ON TRACK, EMERGENCY VEHICLE AREA OR IN THE PIT AREA. Any driver or pit person under the influence of alcohol or drugs allowed in the pit area. This will be strictly enforced.

Competitive aggressive hits!  Careless driving in the pit area could result in disqualification.

All cars are to be removed from the fairgrounds or racetrack immediately following the show.

Additional safety regulations may be imposed, depending on track and conditions.

Any protests must be made within 5 minutes of the last feature heat by another feature driver. Protest fee’s are $100 and are non refundable.

All decisions of the official are final. NO REFUNDS!!

Preparation of TRUCK – Remove or convert the following prior to arriving at fairgrounds or track   MINI TRUCK/VAN 2017


ALL drivers and pit persons MUST sign the event insurance waiver. Failing to do so will result in disqualification. Pit passes must be worn at all times.

 2. Flammable


All carpet, headliner, door pads and ALL other flammable material MUST be removed from inside of car. Front seat and dashboard may be left in place. Sunroof MUST be filled in.

 3. Trailer Hitch

Must be removed and all sharp edges must be mashed down prior to derby event.

 4. Glass/airbags

All windows, mirrors, airbags & trim, must be removed prior to derby event. No loose glass smashed into the bottom of doors. DRIVERS SAFETY

 5. Doors & Numbers

Driver’s door must be PAINTED WHITE. An optional roof number plate may be securely installed. 3/4 of the driver’s door MUST be white.

 6. Fire Extinguisher

Must be within reach of the driver, must work and have a proper working gauge. Please check gauge on the extinguisher before arriving for the event.

 7. Battery

One 12 volt car battery must be moved to front passenger floor board and securely fastened in a box/container clear of all fuel sources. Following inspection it must be covered with a non-flammable shield such as rubber mat or steel cover. NO farm or heavy truck batteries. car batteries only.  NO double batteries.

 8. Gas Tank

Stock gas tanks must be removed. Must be a steel marine tank, custom steel fuel tank, plastic or certified racing fuel cell. All tanks must be welded or bolted to the frame in box. An opening 6” larger than size of tank must be made in box to allow tank to be bolted to frame. Tanks in crew cabs must be securely mounted in the back/center of the rear seat. Tank must be covered with a non-flammable material after inspection.  Referee has final decision. No gas tank protectors.

 9.  Fuel Lines

All fuel lines must have leak proof fitting with steel or rubber lines (no clear lines) and must be ran from tank through hole in box, under the frame, box & cab. No exceptions.

10. Electric Fuel


Must have a safety shut off switch marked in red located on roof in center of the windshield area for officials use. Switch to control fuel pump only. Driver’s safety. MANDATORY. This rule is for fuel injected cars only. Switch must be visible from 20′ away.

11. Fuel System

Electric fuel pump must be isolated with a non-flammable material covering lines, tank & pump. Non-flammable covering may be fire resistant blanket or air bag material.

12. Hood

Hoods are not mandatory. Without hood – use electric fan only – fans directly connected to motor must be removed. With hood – a 12” opening must be cut in the center of the hood. Hoods must remain open for officials’ inspection. Hood can be fastened down in maximum of 8 places including threaded rod or with seat belt strapping, wire, l/4” chain only, or bolted to fender. No welding hoods closed. Hoods can be wired to bumper in 2 places.  Maximum of 2 spots with BARE threaded rod maximum of ¾ inch holding the hood shut. These spots will account for 2 of the 8 spots. Max washer size 4X4.

13. Body Panels

Metal may be cut from around wheels for clearance.  Front & rear quarter panels may be bolted with up to 5 bolts per panel – maximum 3/8” bolt.

14. Door Fastening

Driver’s door may be welded solid.  All other doors must be fastened shut with wire, straps, ¼” chains or spot-welded 1” every 12” or 6 – 3” square plates welded on per door. Driver’s door window screens are not allowed.

15. Bracing

A 12” wide X ¼”  60″ long thick steel plate – bolted in 6 locations or welded 1” every 12” – may be applied to driver’s door ONLY. NO “C” CHANNEL OR ANGLE IRON.  Not mandatory. Plate not extend onto the box.

16. Roll bar

Single roll bar up each doorframe, inside or across outside of the roof. Roll bars going across the roof can be through bolted twice through the roof for safety.  Must be mounted in box OR in cab, but NOT BOTH. 4″ MAX  tubing or pipe. No excessive use of materials.  Max 4″ seat bar can be welded/bolted from post to post behind seat. Not mandatory. Roll bars to be mounted straight down not on an angle. NO DOWN BARS.

17. Windshield


Must have a minimum of a single steel bar or chain from the cowl to the roof bolted or welded. Windshield bar to protect the driver NOT to reinforce the car. Mounted from the cowl to the front portion of the roof. Must be 12″ from the halo bar.
Safety mesh must be placed behind drivers head in rear window space directly behind driver. Only applies to regular cab trucks not to vans or extended cab trucks. No rear window bars.

19. Dash bar

Max. 4” tubing mounted door frame to door frame, but not to firewall.  Not mandatory. Driver Safety. No down bars off the dash bar. Bars can run down the inside of the  both front doors joining the dash bar and seat bars together creating a square around the driver for safety.  One bar can run between the seat from dash bar to the seat bar to mount the shifter.

20. Interior


No welding of any inside body support seams or firewall seams. All holes in firewall must be covered with a non- flammable material. Large holes in  floors must be repaired with same gauge metal and securely fastened. No reinforcement.

21. bumpers

Ends can be bent in or cut off.  Bumpers not to be seam welded or reinforced in any way. Bumpers can be held on with welding up to the last 6″ of the frame. No welding past 6″ on the frame.  Must remain stock height. This will be strictly enforced. If rear bumper is removed the rear frame may be joined with a piece of tubing max 3” between the rails. Stock mini truck/van bumpers, mini car rebars or full size car rebars. NO full size car bumpers. No reinforcement.  Referee’s discretion. No stuffing or loaded bumpers. No seam welded bumpers. No tube bumpers allowed.

22. Front Grill

No extra screens allowed.  Only stock A.C. condensers permitted in original position. No rad guards. Factory style rads only.

23. Radiator

 No rad protectors. Must be mounted in stock location.

24. Transmission


Coolers are permitted and must be secured in engine compartment. Transmission dipstick must be securely fastened, wired down or have an overflow tube pointing straight down away from drivers or spectators. No coolers inside driver’s compartment or in rear windows.
25. suspension No lift kits. Stock suspension only.  No extra leaf clamps. Rear coils may be wired to rear differential. Stock rear ends. Stock ball joints, tie rods, control arms. No solid suspension.

26. Box/gate

Tailgates can be wired/chained or welded closed with 6 3″X 3″ plates. Tailgates must be in STOCK location. Fresh trucks cannot have box sides folded over. Now bolted/welded tailgate/box sides to box floor.

27. Frames

No welding of frame seams top or bottom. Rusty or bent frames may be repaired with steel 4″X4″ no thicker than 1/4″. MAX 4 plates per frame rail. MUST have 3″ in between plates. Over repaired frames will be considered reinforced and will result in alteration or disqualification. Official’s discretion.

28 motor and



No engine protection. No trans braces. No drive train protection of any kind. No slider shafts. No pinion brakes. Stock gas pedals. Aftermarket shifter or shifter rod is allowed.

29. motor mounts

Stock mounts may be welded or chained. Any excessive or added mounts will result in disqualification.

30. Body Mounts

All rubber stock body mounts and stock size bolts must stay in place. Increasing bolt size is not allowed. Max flat washer size – 3”. 4 additional body mounts up to ¾” inch threaded rod are allowed anywhere on the vehicle. Two threaded rods are allowed for the rad cradle that is not included in the additional 4. Two 3”X3″  plates can be welded from cab corner to box side.

31. Tires

 D.O.T. Tires must be low aggression. No forklift/skid/rally tires or solid tires. All tires must be filled with air only. Tires may be doubled. No split rims. No screwing tires to rim or studding. All wheel weights must be removed and no welding stem protections. . Referee’s discretion. “P” rated tires only. No bead locks or rim guards. Weld in center are ok to change the bolt pattern not to reinforce the rim.
